Awe: Why It Matters for Everything We Think, Say, and Do... a review

Paul David Tripp's latest book had me at this paragraph in his Forward:
"I am an Epicurean of sorts.  I love the visual arts, I love great music, and I love food of all kinds.  A beautiful, well-executed painting leaves me in awe.  A band's well-constructed album leaves me amazed and wanting more.  The memory of a tasting menu at a great restaurant leaves me wanting to recreate dishes and revisit the establishment.  None of these things are wrong in themselves.  God intended us to be in awe of his creation, but that awe cannot and should not be an end in itself."
In this amazing book, Tripp reminds us that we were created for "awe".  That our greatest of reasons to and for awe should be the Lord, Himself.  That when other items in life (or people or places) become idols of our awe... that is where we get into trouble.

I think this is the first book I've ever read that helped me understand my great need for Beauty in life and... at the same time... to better understand the sinfulness of mankind.  As I read it through, I found it bringing a greater understanding of the reason the world is in the shape it is today.

We were born for awe and we look for it in all the wrong places.  A truly great book!

This book was provided in an e-book form by Crossway Publishers but the opinions are my own.
